This marks the first such partnership in India for Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), further strengthening its promotional efforts in one of the country’s most important tourism markets.
Visit Maldives has officially partnered with Mumbai Indians as their tourist destination partner which plays in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
This marks the first such partnership in India for Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), further strengthening its promotional efforts in one of the country’s most important tourism markets.
Mumbai Indians, owned by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries and managed by Nita Ambani, is the most valuable franchise in the IPL. With five IPL titles, the team boasts cricket superstars such as Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah.
IPL is among the most watched sports leagues globally, particularly in key tourism source markets like India, the UK, Australia, the Caribbean, and Africa.
MMPRC’s collaboration with Mumbai Indians follows two other high-profile sports partnerships.
Recently, MMPRC became the official tourist destination partner of Liverpool FC, one of the world's most famous football clubs. The corporation also appointed Fabrizio Romano, a globally renowned sports journalist, as a brand ambassador for Maldives tourism.
With cricket being the second most-watched sport in the world and highly popular among high-income earners, MMPRC expects the partnership to significantly enhance Maldives’ visibility among Indian and international travelers. The goal is to attract 200,000 tourists from India this year, with digital promotions and joint activities planned in collaboration with Mumbai Indians.
As IPL 2024 kicks off on Saturday, Mumbai Indians will play their first match against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on Sunday.
