STELCO has completed the renovation work on the fish pond under the minaret at the Islamic Centre and officially handed it over to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
The fish pond was initially built there when the mosque was first constructed 40 years ago. It was recently in misuse for many years due to wear and tear.
Due to this, Islamic Ministry was seeking a party to renovate the fish pond for the 40th anniversary of the centre, when STELCO offered to take on the work under its CSR initiatives.
The completed project was handed over to the ministry at a special ceremony held today.
STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy, Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and officials from both institutions, as well as STELCO staff who actively worked on the project attended today's ceremony.
The new fish pond comes with a new design, with the blue waters shimmering with carp swimming in the waters.
The Islamic Centre was first opened on November 11, 1984.
