Ameera Osmanagic reports from Malaysia.
The Maldivian High Commission in Malaysia is handing out meal vouchers to those coming out to cast their votes in the ongoing Parliamentary Elections today.
A reporter from The Edition at the premises of the Maldives High Commission in Malaysia where the vote center is based was able to confirm the distribution of the vouchers to many voters attending the center.
While the voucher is only valid for today, 21 st April 2024, it has been reported by voters that the High Commission provided meals to voters during the 2023 Presidential Election as well.
It was also reported by voters that there were some delays in the commencement of voting at the voting center, but no major issues were raised once voting started. However, it is notably a hot and humid day in Kuala Lumpur today, making the voting center lobby quite warm as well.
A total of 708 voters reregistered to vote in Malaysia by the Elections Commission’s deadline. This includes eligible Maldivians who live in Malaysia, as well as neighbouring Singapore and Philippines.
Other countries with voting centers for this election include Sri Lanka and India. Including these centers, Maldivian voters will cast their ballots into a total of 602 centers today.
