Parliament, on Tuesday, voted to extend the third and final term of the 2019 parliament by a week, scheduling recess for December 5.
According to Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, the extension was proposed by the parliament secretariat due to pending work, which includes approving the 2020 state budget, currently under review by the Public Finance Committee.
Out of the 72 MPs eligible to vote, 45 lawmakers voted in favour to extend the third term.
While the parliamentary terms are divided into three annual terms, no adjustments were brought to the first term. However, both the second and third terms were extended.
