Once the buildings are ready and the pumps are installed, the system will be operational in the second quarter of this year. The water network will have the capacity to pump 800 tonnes of water per hour between Male' and Hulhumale'.
Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has said yesterday that 65 percent of the work on the project to connect the water networks of Male' and Hulhumale' has been completed.
The project, initiated in 2016, experienced delays due to various challenges but resumed last year.
MWSC said that the work is now progressing at a fast pace.
Work currently underway includes the cleaning, disinfecting, and pressure testing of the 20-inch-diameter, five-kilometer-long main pipeline that links the two islands.
The foundation work for the transfer pump stations in both Male' and Hulhumale' has been completed. Structural work is also progressing, with 25 percent of the pump station in Male' and 60 percent of the pump station in Hulhumale' now finished.
MWSC aims to complete the construction of the pump station buildings by March.
Once the buildings are ready and the pumps are installed, the system will be operational in the second quarter of this year. The water network will have the capacity to pump 800 tonnes of water per hour between Male' and Hulhumale'.
