Vice President Faisal Naseem on Wednesday inaugurated the Fuvahmulah City Road development project.
Ministry of Planning and Urban Infrastructure signed an initial agreement contracting the project to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on March 27 to begin laying roads in Fuvahmulah City.
In the ceremony, VP Naseem stated that it is President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s goal to carry out development projects in accordance with the wishes of the people. Thereby, the Vice President said that the Fuvahmulah road project underway would proceed with taking the ideas and suggestions of citizens of the city into account. He further said that the priorities in development phases will be decided by the people of the city.
According to the President’s Office, the administration previously held extensive discussions with the residents of Fuvahmulah City to gauge their priorities and concerns, which were incorporated into the proposed layout and design of the roads. It further states that the overall planning and design of the roads will place a high level of emphasis on road-safety, for both drivers and pedestrians.
Highlighting the high rate of accidents in Fuvahmulah City, VP Naseem stated that road safety regulations must be observed during the layout of the roads.
