The government has deposited MVR 5 million to the clubs competing in the Dhivehi Premier League, with each club receiving MVR 500,000 as the first installment.

The total promised amount is MVR 1.5 million per club.

However, when Mihaaru News contacted several clubs to confirm receipt of the funds, none of them were able to verify the deposit.

Despite this, a Sports Ministry official confirmed that the payments were made on Sunday.

The funds are intended to assist clubs in preparing for the new season, although the start date remains uncertain. So far, only Maziya has begun training.

In addition to government support, Football Association of Maldives (FAM) had also decided to allocate MVR 10 million to clubs this year. This decision was made under former Normalization Committee Chairman Ahmed Zuhoor.

However, Zuhoor had previously stated that FAM should not be responsible for funding clubs, as FIFA does not endorse such financial support.

FIFA has since removed Zuhoor from his position, and the stance of the new FAM president, Ahmed Muizzu, on club funding remains unclear.

Meanwhile, FAM continues to struggle financially, with debts estimated at MVR 160 million, pushing the association close to bankruptcy.
