Bank of Maldives (BML) has introduced guesthouse financing products in Haa Alifu atoll.

The official launch ceremony took place yesterday in Filladhoo, where BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef highlighted the bank’s commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and strengthening the tourism sector.

Speaking at the event, Shareef said that making financial solutions more accessible would help create new opportunities and drive sustainable development within the atoll.

The ceremony was attended by Tourism Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, and several senior BML officials.

To further expand access to financing, BML has enhanced its guesthouse financing product, allowing guesthouses to be offered as mortgage collateral to make funding more accessible to a larger number of businesses and individuals interested in the tourism industry.

In addition to launching the financing scheme, BML has expanded its banking services in Haa Alifu Atoll by installing ATMs in seven islands, ensuring that ATM services are now available on all residential islands in the atoll.

With this expansion, BML now operates 39 branches, 107 self-service banking centers, 165 ATMs, and agent banking services across 20 atolls, offering state-of-the-art online banking solutions nationwide.
