Raajje TV has apologized for comments made about autistic individuals during its live program "Kaalaabaisa."

The program, which featured political criticism, included remarks that many found derogatory towards autistic people.

Broadcasting Commission has also advised media outlets to be mindful of their content.

In a statement, Raajje TV acknowledged that during the live broadcast, one of the guests had referred to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu by saying, "He seems to have autism, not only operating autism, he also seems to have Down syndrome."

Raajje TV said that this phrase could be seen as demeaning and apologized to anyone who was offended.

The remarks were made by former Colonel Ahmed Fayaz Ali (Papa Fayaz) and former Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed Abdulla during the show, which was hosted by Hussain Rameez.

Many have condemned Nasheed for encouraging Fayaz's comments, with widespread criticism on social media.
