A Hafiz graduation ceremony will be held every year on the eve of 27th Ramadan, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Shaheem Ali Saeed said last night.

A special graduation ceremony for Hafiz was held last night, marking the first time such an event was conducted separately.

Previously, Hafiz were recognized during the results announcement of the National Quran Recitation Competition. Minister Shaheem said that this change ensures the ceremony receives the respect and attention it deserves.

“This is an honorable addition to the Maldives' Islamic history and marks a new chapter,” he said.

The minister highlighted that similar graduation ceremonies are held in other Islamic countries and expressed the government’s commitment to making this an annual tradition.

During last night's ceremony, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu presented certificates and graduation gowns to 22 Hafiz who have memorized the Quran completely.

Minister Shaheem further noted that 250 individuals have received Hafiz certification so far, with the government aiming to increase the number to 1,000 within the next five years.
