Goods worth MVR 223 million rufiyaa were exported last month

Last month, the number of exported goods from the Maldives increased.

According to Customs statistics, MVR 223 million worth of goods were exported last month. This is MVR 32 million more than the amount of goods exported in February of last year. Compared to last January, this is MVR 82 million more. In February of last year, the Maldives exported goods worth MVR 191 million, and in January, goods worth MVR 141 million were exported.

While exports increased, MVR 4.4 billion rufiyaa worth of goods were imported last month.

In February of last year, the Maldives also imported goods worth MVR 4.4 billion. However, compared to January, the imports in February were MVR 800 million less. In January, the value of imported goods reached MVR 5.2 billion.

Last month, along with oil and other types of goods totaling MVR 4.4 billion, USD 50 million (MVR 762 million) was spent on oil alone. Food imports reached MVR 968 million, and electronic equipment worth MVR 751 million was brought in. Last month, MVR 329 million worth of steel was imported.

Cement, rock, and other similar materials worth MVR 74 million rufiyaa were imported. Customs statistics also show that alcoholic beverages and tobacco products worth MVR 62 million were brought in.

According to Customs statistics, the state received MVR 266 million from import and export last month, which is MVR 60 million more than the revenue made from import and export in February of last year.

31 percent of imported goods come from the UAE, 17 percent from India, and 14 percent from China. An additional 8 percent of imported goods are from Singapore.

60 percent of exported goods are sent to Thailand, and 15 percent are sent to the United Kingdom.
