Man who took goods worth MVR 172,000 through using fake slips sentenced to jail

An individual has been sentenced to jail for 1 year and 5 months for taking goods worth MVR 172,000 from a shop by showing fake payment slips. He was also ordered to settle the payments.

An individual has been sentenced to jail for 1 year and 5 months for taking goods worth MVR 172,000 from a shop by showing fake payment slips. He was also ordered to settle the payments.

The man convicted of fraud is Shafeeu Shihab of Dhaagan'du Kekurige in Seenu Atoll Hithadhoo.

Charges were brought against Shihab for, over several instances between June 2022 and October 2022, taking goods from a shop in Lhaviyani Atoll Hinnavaru after showing a fake payment slip which claimed to have transferred the payments to the shop's account.

As the man confessed, Criminal Court sentenced him to 1 year in 5 months in prison. He is also required to pay back the MVR 172,000, through monthly installments of no less than MVR 34,413 paid to the Civil Court. The payment must be settled by December this year, the ruling specifies.
