Maldives named World's Best Destination for Heritage Cuisine

According to Visit Maldives, Maldives competed against Germany, Peru, Seychelles and Singapore for the title.

Maldives has been named the  World's Best Destination for Heritage Cuisine at this year’s World Culinary Awards.

According to Visit Maldives, the country competed against Germany, Peru, Seychelles and Singapore for the title.

Maldives also received multiple regional honours. Male' was named Indian Ocean’s Best Culinary City Destination, while the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) at the Maldives National University won the award for Indian Ocean’s Best Culinary Training Institution

Among individual winners, Symphony Restaurant, one of Male's oldest and most iconic dining establishments, was recognized as the Indian Ocean’s Best Landmark Restaurant.

Visit Maldives Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree said the global recognition highlights the country’s rich culinary heritage and its deep cultural ties to tourism.

“Maldives’ inclusion as a world-class destination for both traditional and modern cuisine is a great encouragement to show the world how intertwined the lives of the people are with tourism and national pride,” he said.

The World Culinary Awards are part of the World Travel Awards. The Maldives is also in contention for the title of World’s Leading Destination for the sixth consecutive year.
