Land to be allocated in Thilafushi within six months for fiber work: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said on Saturday that the transfer of fiber work from Kaafu atoll Vilimalé to Thilafushi of the same atoll will be settled in six months.

Fiber work is currently done in the eastern part of Vilimalé.

When fiber work was shifted to that area after the construction of the Thilamalé bridge work commenced, Vilimalé residents had expressed concern and protested over the matter.

When President Muizzu was Mayor of Malé City, he had requested the government to provide land from Thilamale’ so that fiber work could be shifted to that island instead of Vilimale’. However, the previous administration were not able to provide a solution for the matter.

While visiting Vilimalé accompanying Azima Shakoor, who is running for the post of Malé City Mayor under the combined ticket of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC), President Muizzu assured the residents that the administration was working towards implementing many of the requests that the Vilimalé residents have.

Recalling that he had worked towards obtaining a land from Thilafushi for fiber work to be shifted from Vilimalé even while he was Mayor, he assured the residents that a land has been allocated for this purpose and work is underway to make this change.

“Land has been allocated, preparatory work has now started. At most within six months it will be arranged and the shift can be made, with enough space for others as well,” President Muizzu said.

When this shift is completed, it will bring a stop to the complaints the locals have regarding health issues that arise due to fiber work being done so close to residential areas.

The President also said that a sea ambulance service has been started in Villimalé, and a 100-bed tertiary hospital is being constructed in the area. He added that a road construction project in Villimalé is also being planned, and they will explore how it can be implemented without uprooting the trees currently planted on the roads. He assured that if the trees are to be removed, more will be planted.
