Maldives Immigration has yesterday detained 17 expatriates from near the Heenaamaage Parking Area in Male' for violating immigration laws.
Maldives Immigration has yesterday detained 17 expatriates from near the Heenaamaage Parking Area in Male' for violating immigration laws.
Immigration said that a special operation had been conducted in the area as there are constant concerns from the public that expatriates control the area.
They said that under this operation, expatriates gathering at the area as well as shops and other outlets operated by expatriates near the vicinity had been inspected.
17 expatriates found to be without valid visas had been detained in the operation.
Immigration commenced efforts to identify and take action against expatriates found to be living and working illegally in the country last year. As of now, over 5000 expatriates have been deported, including some involved in prostitution and other crimes.
