Police have stated today that no evidence or signs of foul play have been found in the investigation into the death of Zakiyyaa Moosa as of yet.

On September 10, Zakiyya was found dead on the floor of her residence in Noonu atoll Holhudhoo by waste collectors. She was found with severe wounds to her neck, and a knife beside her body.

There is heavy speculation about the cause of her death in the island, with a protest having been staged recently rejecting the possibility of suicide and calling for justice to be served.

In a press conference today, Police shared details of the investigation from the moment the death was reported to date. Police said that although there are allegations that Zakiyya was murdered, no evidence indicating that has been uncovered in the investigation.

There is no evidence that the death occurred as the result of actions from anyone, Chief Inspector Mohamed Samih stated.

Police dismissed rumours on the island that there was no blood on the knife found near Zakiyya's body and her clothes, confirming that this was false. Forensic examination of the knife is ongoing, they said.

They further said that the head scarf found in the sewerage system has been confirmed as not belonging to Zakiyya, contrary to claims otherwise.

Police reiterated that there are no signs that another person had entered the storeroom where Zakiyya's body had been discovered, nor any signs of a struggle or attack.

During the investigation, Police also questioned some members of Zakiyya's family. Police said that no family conflicts involving Zakiyya had come to light.

Police also said that Zakiyya's death had been caused due to the injuries to her neck, citing hospital records. There were deep wounds to her neck, but no signs to suggest the injuries had been caused by another person.

During the recent protest, witnesses who saw Zakiyya's body claimed that she had been nearly decapitated, and asserted that it could not have been self-inflicted.
