Ministry of Environment has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UNDP, Addu City Council and Fuvahmulah City Council to renovate the Addu and Fuvahmulah Nature Parks.
The two parks are in a state of disrepair following long periods without proper maintenance and repair.
The MoU was signed at a ceremony held in Fuvahmulah.
The Ministry said that this project will be taken under Maldives RREEF projects, funded by the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR), with an aim toward renovating the nature parks.
Minister Thoriq Ibrahim stated that the Addu and Fuvahmulah Nature Parks had highlighted the importance of preservation of the natural resources of the country.
The park were built under the Climate Change Adaptation Project (CCAP) in 2018 by the government through a grant from European Union.
Addu Nature Park was built in the area of the Addu Eadhigali Kilhi, one of the largest wetlands in the country, and Kottey break, both protected areas. Eadhigali Kilhi is especially popular for the varieties of seabirds that frequent the area, and Kottey as a snorkeling attraction, with both places offering the chance for visitors to observe nature and a variety of species.
Fuvahmulah Nature Park is located at Dhadimagi Kilhi, the largest wetland on the island.
