The Maldives government has given a lagoon to local businessman and Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir instead of Alifu Alifu atoll Mathiveri Finolhu.
An official from the Ministry of Tourism verifies that the government had issued a lagoon from Malé atoll to International Travel Consultation, a company in which Jabir is the primary proprietor.
Reports also claim that the Malé atoll lagoon, located near Gaafaru, was issued to the company last week.
The government said it had given the lagoon in Malé atoll to Jabir’s company since the state needed to utilize Mathiveri Finolhu, which was earlier issued to the businessman. Meanwhile, Mathiveri Council has issued a request to the government to include the lagoon under its jurisdiction.
MP Jabir has recently joined hands with Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announcing his endorsement for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate in the upcoming presidential elections. The Kaashidhoo MP is currently active in President Solih’s campaign efforts as well.
Jabir had acquired Mathiveri Finolhu by purchasing the shares of its lessee, International Travel Consultants.
