The funeral prayer will be held at the Islamic Centre after Asru prayers, with visitation open to the public from 11 am.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has paid tribute to renowned literary figure Madulu Mohamed Waheed, who passed away today at the age of 77 while receiving treatment at a hospital.
In a message of condolence shared on social media, President Muizzu sid that Waheed was a talented and dedicated writer who witnessed and documented Maldives' recent history.
“He was a serviceman who worked until his last moment,” President Muizzu said.
“The memory of his valuable service to the country for more than half a century will not fade away,” he said.
Madulu Waheed was renowned figure in the field of Dhivehi language and literature. In 2019, he was honored with the National Award of Honor for his contributions to Dhivehi literature.
His legacy also includes receiving the National Award for Public Service in 1985 for his role in developing the Dhivehi language, and again in 1997 for his work in short story writing. He was further recognized with the Alimas Galan for his contributions in the field of journalism.
