Former President Dr Mohamed Waheed today commended President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's efforts in addressing Israel's genocide against Palestine, describing them as some of the strongest actions taken by a Maldivian leader.

In a statement to mark the one year anniversary of President Dr Muizzu's government, Dr Waheed said he is most pleased with the work being done to stop the genocide in Palestine.

He said President Dr Muizzu's speech at the recent OIC meeting was the strongest and most convincing speech ever delivered by a head of state. He also said that he is pleased to note that Maldives has sent a very strong team of lawyers to support South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.

Thanking President Dr Muizzu for understanding the grief, pain and heartache of Maldivian's and representing it in his speeches, Dr Wahaeed branded Israel's crimes in Palestine, which are supported by the West, as uncivilised, cruel and shameless and among the most horrific crimes committed in the past 100 years.

He further said that Maldives faced many challenges when President Dr Muizzu's administration took over last year. He specifically mentioned that Maldivian's had negative sentiments towards some countries when the Presidential terms changed, and that the long-standing relationship with India was also questioned.

Dr Waheed further said that along with India, Maldives also faced strained relationships with China, which President Dr Muizzu remedied after assuming power.

The result was a stronger relationship between the two countries and many benefits in the international sphere, he said.
