President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said today that the agreement with MTCC to construct an airport in Raa Atoll Fainu will be signed next month, with work on the project to commence soon.

He said that the airport will significantly enhance the region's economy and benefit islands in the atoll.

President Muizzu highlighted that the airport would enable the development of new resorts in the area, creating additional employment opportunities.

During his presidential campaign, he had pledged to boost the region's tourism sector by increasing the number of resorts. He reiterated his commitment, stating that the airport would play a significant role in fulfilling that promise.

"The airport will be completed with a lot of potential. I promised during the presidential election that many resorts will be opened in this area," he said. He assured that the project would be a top priority and expressed hope that the airport would be completed before his next visit to Fainu.

Currently, Raa Atoll has only one airport, located in Ifuru. The addition of another airport has been a long-standing hope for many islands in the atoll.

During his visit, President Muizzu also inaugurated the Fainu Water and Sewerage Project and announced additional development initiatives for the island. These include upgrades to the health center, construction of a football stadium, and the expansion of the harbor.

President Muizzu said that the government will prioritize the people's needs, and ensure that all projects are undertaken in consultation with the community.
