The construction of the police building in Alifu Dhaalu Maamigili has faced significant delays, prompting Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim to request Police Commissioner Ali Shujau's approval to fund the project through the Villa Foundation.
In a letter sent to the commissioner yesterday, Qasim acknowledged the ongoing challenges, noting that despite state budget allocations for the past five years, the building remains incomplete.
"If the Commissioner of Police gives permission, I have decided to build the police station under the sponsorship of the Villa Foundation. Please provide me with the drawings and documents of acceptance of the sponsorship," Qasim stated.
He highlighted Maamigili’s importance as the largest island in the Kaafu, Alifu Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu, and Vaavu atoll region in terms of both population and land area. The island also has an international airport and several nearby resorts, attracting a high number of visitors seeking various services.
