Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced a donation of USD 100,000 from the Maldives' Zakat Fund to aid the people of Gaza, Palestine.
The MoU was signed during an online ceremony by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed on behalf of the ministry, and Secretary-General of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) Faisal Al-Emadi.
This marks the first time the Maldives' Zakat Fund has extended assistance to a foreign entity.
The funds will be transferred in two phases and allocated to the Qatar Red Crescent Society's project to provide clean drinking water to residents of Gaza, according to the ministry.
Previously, the Maldivian government organized a telethon to raise funds for Palestinians totaling over MVR 19 million to date.
