Usaid, who was reported missing in Malaysia on Sunday, is believed to be safe but has not yet contacted his family.
CCTV footage and the discovery of Ahmed Usaid’s wallet at the Maldivian embassy in Malaysia have confirmed that he went there after a search was launched for him.
Usaid, who was reported missing in Malaysia on Sunday, is believed to be safe but has not yet contacted his family.
His father, Ibrahim Afeef, said in a Facebook post that Usaid was last seen at 3:15 pm on Sunday.
The family filed a missing person report with the police and the Maldivian embassy in Malaysia, which initiated a search.
According to Afeef, CCTV footage and witness accounts confirmed that Usaid arrived at the embassy at 4 pm that day.
“However, as Sunday was a holiday, Usaid could not meet anyone from the embassy. He stayed there for an hour and left, leaving behind his wallet and student card,” Afeef wrote.
At that point, the family was reassured that Usaid was safe, he added.
The embassy handed over Usaid’s wallet and student card to his family through the police on Monday.
"Hopefully, there will be news of Usaid very soon," Afeef said, thanking the police, the embassy, and the public for their support in the search.
CCTV footage showed Usaid in good condition, wearing a red T-shirt, Afeef added. However, since Sunday, he has not met with anyone, and it is unclear why he left his belongings at the embassy.
