Speaking to residents of Gaafu Dhaalu Vaadhoo during his tour of Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls, the President said true development extends beyond infrastructure and tangible projects.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu addressed concerns over the government's measures to ban vaping, emphasizing that the steps are designed to curb harmful habits and safeguard future generations rather than inconvenience the public.
Speaking to residents of Gaafu Dhaalu Vaadhoo during his tour of Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls, the President said true development extends beyond infrastructure and tangible projects.
"Development also means improving behavior, raising children well, and prioritizing good deeds. When we see something wrong, we must have the courage to say no to it," he said.
Highlighting initiatives such as the vape ban, increased import duties on cigarettes from December 15, and raising the legal smoking age to 21, the President said that these measures aim to tackle harmful habits ingrained in society.
"The government is making difficult decisions to protect future generations and transform Maldives into a truly developed nation," he said.
"These measures are intended to save our country from various challenges and encourage self-improvement, not to distress the public,"
President Muizzu reiterated his clear intentions behind the policies and urged citizens to support efforts toward comprehensive development.
"My goal is to unite us in achieving meaningful, tangible progress for our nation. Together, we can realize the true development we aspire to," he said.
