President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih early Monday returned to Maldives after concluding his official visit to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to take part in the 14th High-Level Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The summit held triennially gathers leaders of Muslim-majority countries to discuss pressing issues confronting the global Muslim community.
Currently comprising of 57 member countries and representing over a billion people across the globe, OIC has aspired to speak as the collective voice of the Islamic Ummah since its inception in 1969.
In this year's summit, the leaders stressed on the need to confront Islamophobia and religious extremism.
Additionally, it was deliberated on the best path to resolve the geopolitical issues in the Middle Eastern region, and further discussed the myriad contemporary issues faced by Muslims everywhere.
In President Solih's statement to OIC, he referred to the unwavering support for the Palestinian cause as evidence of the country's consistent advocacy on behalf of Muslims everywhere.
He also highlighted frequent condemnation of anti-Islamic bigotry, as demonstrable examples.
As the Muslim world prepares for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations, marking the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, President Solih enjoined Muslim leaders and adherents of the Islamic faith to pray for the future peace, success, and well-being of the Islamic Ummah.
Whilst in Mecca, President Solih also performed Umrah rites prior to returning to Maldives.
