Swimming: Hamna and Aan break records in Hungary tournament

Hamna and Aan made new records for Maldives in swimming recently.

Maldivian swimmers Mohamed Aan Hussain and Hamna Ahmed, both training in Hungary, have set a new national records in various swimming events

Aan broke Nishwan Ibrahim's short course 100 metre freestyle record of 56.25 seconds made at the 13th FINA World Championship in 2016, in 54.89 seconds at the second Short course Buda Cup in Hungary last month. He has since renewed the recored at the ongoing 20th National Short course Championship in 53.45 seconds.

In the same tournament, Aan has also broken the 29.06 second short course 50 metre backstroke national record made by Mohamed Rihaan Shihaam at this year's AOSI Age Group Swimming Championship.

Since last month's Buda Cup, Aan also holds the short course 50 metre freestyle record with 24.29 seconds. Aan renewed the record after his initial record in the event back in 2021 during the 15th FINA World Swimming Championship, where he finished in 25 seconds.

Meanwhile, Hamna also made new national records at last week's third Short course Hajos Alfred Kupa, where she finished the 50 metre and 100 metre breaststroke events in 37.13 seconds and 1 minute 23.76 seconds respectively.

Hamna held the 50 metre breaststroke record previously as well, when she first made the record at last year's national short course tournament in Hungary. Her timing at 37.88 seconds at the time.

The 100 metre breaststroke record was previously held by Aishath Sajina, who finished with a timing of 1 minute 23.81 seconds at the 13th South Asian Games back in 2019.
