Charges were pressed against Aishath and Mohamed Reehan of Ma. Masfan and Shafeeq Ibrahim of Soma, Seenu Hithadhoo, for luring a man inside Ma. Masfan, stripping him and forcing him to give up the PIN number of his cash card, and so stealing money from him.
They were charged with deliberately getting information in a prohibited manner, assault, and extortion. All three admitted to the charges at their hearings in Criminal Court.
For extortion, the sentence is 9 months and 18 days in prison. For assault, it is 2 months and 12 days, and for extorting information, the sentence is 4 months and 24 days in prison.
Hence, last Wednesday, the Criminal Court sentenced all three to a total of 1 year 3 months in prison each.
The court order states that the three had threatened him and transferred MVR 20,000 from his account to another, and taken another MVR 25,000 from the ATM through using his cash card.
Police have earlier said that the address in question has been used in multiple instances to lure people into and threaten them.
