President pledges population based enhancement of health facilities

President Dr. Mohamed today pledged to enhance health facilities of all islands in the country, based on the population and its need.

Speaking in HA. Muraidhoo during his visit to the northern most islands of the country, President Dr. Muizzu said that the government's plan is to establish health facilities in all islands based on population and economic activities.

The President said he would work to increase the number of staff and resources alongside improving health services.

He said the health needs of each islands should be prioritised under the policy that everyone is an equal citizen no matter how small the population.

Dr. Muizzu said that the rural health system should be developed even if long and medium term development plans are made.

"Even if each such island does not have 900 or 1,000 inhabitants, and there are islands with fewer people. There are islands with less than 500 inhabitants even. Each of these islands should have basic and essential services. [I] promised to provide the services needed in islands, laboratories,” he said.

The President also said that while developing the health sector, human resources and equipment will be provided for the health centre or hospital in the island.
