Maldives’ tourism ushers in new brands and developments for 2018

Although many famous names are already present in Maldives’ every growing hospitality landscape, the establishment of significant new investments is not only a step up the corporate ladder, but opens horizons for even further progress.

The presence of the biggest hotel chain brands like JW Marriott, Waldorf Astoria, Hard Rock Hotels are felt strongly in every travel destination around world.

Although many famous names are already present in Maldives’ every growing hospitality landscape, the establishment of significant new investments is not only a step up the corporate ladder, but opens horizons for even further progress.

JW Mariott Maldives, Sh. Vagaru

In 2016, Mariotts’ USD $13 billion acquisition of Starwood made it the biggest hotel company in the world, uniting several of the best-known brands in travel.

After bringing massive changes to Vangaru, previously operated under the name Viceroy Maldives, the first resort bearing the prestigious JW Marriott name, is slated to launch right in time for the high season, November 2018.

The second resort to be opened in Shaviyani Atoll, the luxurious JW Marriott Maldives Resort and Spa boasts 61-villas, each featuring a private pool as well as host of facilities including a tree top restaurant, wine cellar, a grand spa, pop-up dining concepts, diving and watersports center.

JW Marriott Maldives Resort and Spa will be the fourth resort currently run by the Marriott family in the Maldives, alongside The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort and Spa, and W Maldives. The company has also announced plans to open The Westine Maldives Miriandhoo Rrsort and a Ritz Carlton branded property in 2019.

Located only 45 minutes by plane, and 25 minutes by speedboat from Male’ International Airport in the blissful island of Muravandhoo in Raa Atoll, Joali Maldives has already been ranked by Top Hotel News as one of the top 10 luxury hotel openings of 2018.

Seamlessly fusing the natural beauty of Maldives with vividly modern style and amenities, Joali Maldives is slated to open on the 15th of September.

The resort will host 73 beach villas, water villas and residences as well as a an array of fine dining restaurants and other facilities.

Curated by famous businessman Dr. Ibrahim Umar Manik, Nautilus Maldives introduces an entirely new concept to the Maldivian resort industry.

Offering an intimate selection of 26 houses and residences, each equipped with its own private pool as well as living area, every guest begins their journey at the VIP Terminal of Male’ International Airport, before being whisked off via a scenic 35-minute seaplane ride to their luxurious abode for what Dr.Manik promises will be a “transformative experience”.

Anticipated to be the gastronomic arrival of 2018, Baglioni Maldives meshes the best of rich Italian cuisine with the idyllic ambience of Dhaalu Atoll in what is sure to be, a foodie’s dream getaway.

A 40-minute ride from Male’ International Airport, this high-end resort features 96 luxurious ocean-facing villas, four gourmet restaurants, an al-fresco sushi bar, yoga pavilion, well equipped beach gym and an array of watersports and diving facilities – for adults and kids alike!

Boasting a 120 luxuriously outfitted villas featuring a tropical yet contemporary look, the famous Italian hotel chain Emerald is set to open its latest creation, the Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa this year.

The Villas are divided into 60 beach villas and 60 overwater villas, and includes a royal villa and two presidential suites. More than half of the villas have their own private pool and Jacuzzis.

This all-inclusive resort offers four different culinary experiences at each of their restaurants, including one that serves a distinctive South American cuisine.

For more adventurous holidaymakers the resort offers tennis, snorkeling and diving activities and for those seeking relaxation it has an elegant spa offering a full range Thai, Balinese and Indonesian treatments.

Currently in the process of wrapping up construction, will open in October.

Hardrock Hotel, K.Emboodhoo (Lagoon)

Crossroad Maldives, or the recently reclaimed Emboodhoo Lagoon in Kaafu Atoll, stretches out 5.5 hectares long and will be home to Hard Rock Hotel, one of three resorts being built on the location.

The Hard Rock Hotel, Maldives will cater to 178 expansive guestrooms including family suites, beach villas and two-bedroom overwater villas. Along with the Hard Rock’s iconic musical memorabilia, the hotel will also feature regionally authentic collectibles.

The hotel offers exclusive brand offerings such as The Sound of Stay music program, complimentary use of Fender guitars and Crosley record players, a renowned full service Rock Spa, Fitness Centre, a Rock Shop selling brand merchandise, Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club and Teen Spirit Club.

Food offerings range from a pool bar and all day dining to a Beach Grill Restaurant serving Latin / Mexican cuisine as well as in villa dining experiences. The hotel will also be situated in close proximity to Hard Rock Café Maldives, which will seat 190 people, offer diners exclusive dining access and more.

This marks the world famous franchise’s very first investment in the Maldives and is scheduled to open on the 1st of October.

In addition, Hilton’s most exclusive and high end brand, Waldorf Astoria Collection, is also confirmed to open soon.
