A Maldivian national has been arrested in Bangkok for possession of three kilograms of drugs concealed in a protein supplement bottle.

According to Bangkok newspapers, the individual was apprehended while attempting to collect a package containing mephedrone from a courier facility. The package had reportedly been sent from the UK.

Panurat Lakboon, Secretary-General of the Office of Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), said that a similar case occurred last June when a Russian national was arrested in Poland with 840 grams of mephedrone hidden in coffee capsules.

The name of the arrested Maldivian has not been disclosed, as ONCB said that the investigation is ongoing to identify others involved in the network.

Thai police have also recovered MDMA, ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine, and other suspected drugs during their operations, including newly circulating substances. These emerging drugs are reportedly appearing in increasing quantities among seized items.
