Unused accommodation block in Hulhumalé catches fire

An unused accommodation block in Hulhumalé has caught fire.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) confirmed that the incident took place and detailed that it was reported at around 04:00 pm today.

Fire and Rescue efforts are now underway, MNDF also confirmed.

However, it is yet to be known how the fire broke out there.

Video footage circulating on social media show a large part of the accommodation block, which is located on a large clear plot of land near the Hiyaa Flats, on fire with thick smoke surrounding the area.
