Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure (MoCI) has announced that 38 projects worth MVR 2 billion have been completed within this administration's first year in office.
The ministry said that the biggest challenge faced in running the projects was having to resume projects which had been commenced by the previous government in various islands and later halted. They said that it had been difficult to complete these projects due to the budgets that had been passed then.
MoCI said that even with budget constraints, special priority had been given to resume such projects and bring them to completion. The results of this will be seen on islands, in their waterways, harbours and reclaimed areas, they said.
"By 17 November 2024, there are 38 entirely completed projects to be seen. The total cost of these projects come up to nearly MVR 1.975 billion," they said.
Offering details of some of the projects completed, the Ministry cited:
- road development in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Thinadhoo
- reclamation and shore protection in Noonu atoll Maafaru
- reclamation in 11 islands
- harbour construction in Meemu atoll Muli, Alif Alif atoll Maalhos, Alif Alif atoll Thohdoo, Alif Dhaalu atoll Fenfushi
- water and sewerage work in 29 islands
The Ministry said that an additional 26 projects will be completed by the end of December.
In addition to these, reclamation of GulhiFalhu has also been completed.
Work on the ThilaMale' Bridge is also proceeding swiftly. The project, commenced by the previous administration, had been 28.7 percent completed by last October. However, with work proceeding at speed in the intervening time, the project is now at 46.6 percent completion, the Ministry said.
