Estonia to offer support towards Maldives' digital transformation

Estonia's President Dr Alar Karis highlighted the country's success in achieving digital advancements and stated his eagerness to collaborate with Maldives to foster innovation.

In his ongoing official visit to Estonia, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu yesterday joined a roundtable discussion with the Estonian Digital Advisory Council to the President of Estonia.

At the meeting, President Muizzu shared Maldives' vision for a digital transformation, with special focus on accessibility, sustainability and resilience.

Estonia's President Dr Alar Karis highlighted the country's success in achieving digital advancements and stated his eagerness to collaborate with Maldives to foster innovation.

The Estonian Digital Advisory Council emphasized the key role that the private sector plays in building infrastructure and advancing digital development, as well as of promoting STEM education and logical thinking from an early age onwards.

They stated that the country will assist the Maldives through sharing their expertise, assisting in redesigning services and offering overall guidance.

The roundtable discussion was held at the PoCo Pop and Contemporary Art Museum in Tallinn. After the meeting, Estonian IT visionary Linnar Viik escorted President Muizzu on a tour of the museum.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs Tonis Saar also paid a courtesy call on President Muizzu yesterday.

At the meeting, President Muizzu appealed for Estonia to lend their expertise towards strengthening the Maldives' e-governance and ICT infrastructure.

Secretary General Saar also offered to collaborate in working towards achieving Maldives' digital transformation goals.

Following the meeting, an MoU was signed between Estonia's Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs and Maldives' Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, the details of which have not been disclosed as of yet.

President Muizzu also visited the e-Estonia Briefing Centre yesterday, where he was welcomed by the centre's Head, Triin Joasaare, and Acting Head of International Services Division and Director of Enterprise Estonia, Joonas Vanto.

The centre gave a presentation on Estonia's digital transformation journey.
