Delivering the Presidential Address at the opening session of Parliament, President Muizzu stated that the government aims to develop resorts in these atolls by offering investment concessions and 'other incentives' to attract investors.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said today that expanding tourism to regions where tourism has yet to take off, including Haa Dhaalu and Thaa atolls, is a key priority for his administration this year.
Delivering the Presidential Address at the opening session of Parliament, President Muizzu stated that the government aims to develop resorts in these atolls by offering investment concessions and 'other incentives' to attract investors.
President Muizzu said that the Maldives welcomed two million tourists in 2024, a milestone for the country. This marked a 9 percent increase in arrivals compared to the previous year.
"This year, our target is to attract 2.3 million tourists by the end of this year. Many efforts are already underway to achieve this goal," he said.
President Muizzu said that Maldivian Airlines, had recently introduced its first widebody aircraft, adding that efforts are underway to begin operations to additional Chinese cities and other international destinations.
"I would also like to note that another widebody aircraft is scheduled to arrive in October. This will enable the national airline to launch direct flights to some European destinations," he added.
