Police at Operational Level 3 due to stormy weather

Police have raised their response to Operational Level 3 in their efforts to ensure safety and protection of citizens during the current stormy weather conditions being experienced across the country.

Police have raised their response to Operational Level 3 in their efforts to ensure safety and protection of citizens during the current stormy weather conditions being experienced across the country.

With torrential downpours, strong winds and flooding, special assistance is being required across the atolls of Maldives.

Police stated tonight that their officers are working country-wide to provide the required assistance to residents.

Some of the efforts being undertaken by police include:

- Placing sand bags, with sand bags currently placed at 55 locations in Male' today

- Draining flood water from five locations in Male' today and assisting with placing water draining pumps at five locations

- Providing assistance at two locations where sewage leaks were observed

- Providing land transport assistance to two individuals

- Placing sand bags to prevent flood water entering the Mohamed Gasim Preschool in Hulhumale'

- Neighbourhood Officers visiting households to check on residents and provide information on safety measures

- Providing assistance to deal with water damage in 40 houses in Ihavandhoo, 22 houses in Kelaa, 55 houses in Baarah, 1 house in Manadhoo, 1 house in Vaadhoo, 1 house in Hulhumeedhoo

- Assist in draining water from streets in Maalhos

- Provide assistance in preventing water damage to government institutions and residences in Hulhudheli and Mulah

- Provide assistance to two houses in Gan, Addu, where one house had its roof blown off, and the other had an uprooted breadfruit tree collapsing onto its roof

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that tomorrow is a government holiday due to the severe stormy weather being faced across the country.
