With the torrential rain being experienced in capital Male' City today, Police have appealed for heavy vehicles to not be driven on Male' streets until the rain subsides.

They stated that with the heavy rains, they are continuing to receive reports of flood water entering residences and other premises, and appealed for heavy vehicles to not be operated on Male' streets until the situation is handled and normal conditions restored.

They further asked for four wheeled vehicles to not be driven unless out of necessity.

As seen in some videos that have been shared on social media, the roads are heavily flooded, with the water being pushed into residences when heavy vehicles drive through the flood water. Motorcycles parked on streets are also seen to topple into the flood water.

Nearly all Male' streets are flooded now, impeding residents' movements within the city.

Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has now issued an Orange Alert from Kaafu atoll to Alif Dhaalu atoll until 18:15 hrs today.
