Dhiraagu will be organising a Dhiraagu Road Race in Fuvahmulah.
Local telecom service provider Dhiraagu has announced that it will be organising a Dhiraagu Road Race run in Fuvahmulah, marking the first time the run will be held outside of Maldives' capital Malé City.
Branded as the Dhiraagu Fuvahmulah Run, the event is schedule for 2nd May of this year with registrations set to open within the first week of February via dmrr.mv.
Dhiraagu is organizing the run in collaboration with Fuvahmulah City Council and city's Women's Development Committee (WDC). Speaking at the official launch of the event today, Dhiraagu's Chief Commercial Officer Ali Riyaz described the road race as a step forward for the race.
“We are proud to provide an opportunity to experience Fuvahmulah's unique natural beauty, colourful culture and warm hospitality, as well as facilitating an internationally certified running route,” he said.
He said the race will promote Fuvahmulah as a special destination for runners.
At the ceremony, Fuvahmulah's Mayor Ismail Rafeeg said he hoped that the race would give the opportunity to showcase the beauty of the city to the world and make the city a suitable destination for local and international runners. The city is ready to give a warm welcome to all the runners, he said.
The Dhiraagu Road Race is the only international race in the country. It is listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and included in the World Running Calendar. It also features a World Athletics Certified Route.
The race was first launched in 2007 by Dhiraagu.
