President;s Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed confirmed Nareesh's appointment, though no further details were shared.
With the advisory position being of ministerial rank, Nareesh will receive the salary and benefits of a minister. A minister earns MVR 66,000 per month in salary and allowances.
Nareesh resigned from the post of Deputy Mayor of Male' City last Wednesday. He said then that he had handed in his resignation as he has received the opportunity to serve the nation and its people in another capacity.
Nareesh was elected to the Male' City Council on June 21, 2021.
