The condition of the person injured after the rotor blades of a Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) helicopter hit an airstair in Velana International Airport on Sunday is stabilising, stated ADK Hospital.
The hospital’s Managing Director Ahmed Afaal said on Thursday that Moosa Wajudhee of Baa atoll Hithaadhoo island has been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the High Dependency Unit.
The accident had occurred when the airstair had been driven past the MNDF helicopter before its rotor blades had stopped after landing. The blades hit the airstair and Moosa, its driver, had been stabbed in the abdomen by a flying shard of the rotor blade which had broken down into 22 pieces after impact.
He had undergone a six-hour long operation the night of the accident during which 21 of the pieces were successfully removed from his abdomen. The hospital has decided to wait for his condition to improve before attempting a second surgery to remove the final shard.
