Businesses, companies backing clubs is crucial: Sajid

“Maziya is not just a club. We have many companies engaged in various activities, and part of the revenue generated by these companies is invested in the club. This cannot be achieved by simply existing as a club,” Sajid said.

Chairperson of Maziya Sports and Recreation Club Ahmed Sajid, has said businesses and companies play a crucial role in sustaining clubs.

Speaking at a press conference to introduce Maziya’s new coach, Spain's Luisma Hernández, Sajid, who also serves as the Managing Director of Maziya's business conglomerate said that the club depended on its conglomerate in sustaining its operations.

“Maziya is not just a club. We have many companies engaged in various activities, and part of the revenue generated by these companies is invested in the club. This cannot be achieved by simply existing as a club,” Sajid said.

Sajid said that football clubs want a better system and highlighted Maziya’s responsibility in the current football landscape.

“There is no doubt that Maziya carries a bigger responsibility given the state of football in the country,” he said.

“If other clubs take on some of this responsibility, it will allow Maziya to do even more.”

Maziya has been a significant contributor to Maldivian football, with a large number of national team players on its roster. The club is known for paying players’ salaries consistently and covering treatment for injuries.

Despite the not having a top division football tournament last year, Maziya had continued to pay its players’ salaries.

Experts believe that many players aspire to join Maziya due to the club’s reputation for managing their players well.

Sajid also highlighted the potential for other clubs to strengthen football by ensuring proper management and support for their players which will increase players wanting to join their clubs as well.
