IAS appeals tribunal ruling to reinstate Deputy MD Jennifer

According to the High Court website, IAS filed the appeal on Tuesday. The court has not yet decided whether to accept the case.

Island Aviation Services (IAS), which operates the national airline, has appealed the Employment Tribunal's decision to reinstate and provide compensation for Aishath Jennifer at the High Court.

The tribunal had ruled that Jennifer, who served as Deputy Managing Director of IAS, was wrongfully dismissed and ordered her reinstatement along with compensation.

According to the High Court website, IAS filed the appeal on Tuesday. The court has not yet decided whether to accept the case.

Jennifer was appointed Deputy Managing Director of Island Aviation in December 2018 during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. She was dismissed by a board decision earlier this January.

Following her dismissal, Jennifer filed a case with the Employment Tribunal, which ruled on October 13 that her removal lacked just cause and failed to meet standards of procedural fairness.

As part of the ruling, IAS is directed to pay Jennifer over MVR 56,000, which is one month’s salary and allowances, as compensation for her wrongful dismissal.

Employment tribunal also stated that IAS must reinstate Jennifer and notify the tribunal of compliance within one month.
