The victim in the accident which occurred between a Police car and a motorcycle last month has still not regained consciousness, the victim's family has said.

The victim of the accident which occurred on December 26 is a 19 year old youth.

He continues to receive treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

A member of his family told Mihaaru News that he is still being treated in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit, and no significant improvement to his condition has been observed.

The family attempted to take him abroad for further treatment , but did not get authorization from doctors due to risks of travelling under his present condition.

"Our prayer continues to be that he will recover. But he still hasn't regained consciousness," a brother of the victim said.

Police have earlier said that the accident occurred when a speeding motorcycle driving down Nirolhu Magu crashed into the Police car while it was crossing the street on Gul'alaa Magu.

Police also claimed that the victim, who was riding the motorcycle, had had his license seized.

However, the family rejects these claims. The victim's brother told Mihaaru News that a motorcycle the youth had been driving the previous Saturday had been stopped by police, and the owner of the vehicle had been fined for having had illegal modifications made to the vehicle. However, he claims that there had been no mention made of the youth's license being seized.

He said that the family would appeal to Police to show them documents proving the license had been held, expressing disbelief that the youth would have been driving his motorcycle if his license had been seized.

Citing eye witnesses, the family said that the Police car had not been pointing in the right direction for it to have been crossing across Nirolhu Magu on Gul'alaa Magu. Hence, they maintain that there is police negligence as well in this accident.

Police have since announced seeking eye witnesses to the accident. They also said that the investigation will look into whether there was any negligence on the part of the officer driving the Police car.
