President Dr Mohamed Muizzu today laid the foundation for this mosque.
The mosque is planned to be built near Red Wave in Hulhumale' Phase 1, where the temporary mosque was earlier located. The mosque will be named after Prophet Muhammadh's wife Unmul Mu'uminin Aishath.
Thoiba Ismail is the first Maldivian to have completed studies at the Medina Islamic University. He also ran the Thoiba School in Male' previously.
The mosque will be constructed by Medina Investment. When completed, it can accommodate 2000 persons within the mosque and its grounds. Its two floors will also house a library and a research centre, a senior official of Medina Investment said. The mosque will also have dedicated quarters for women.
The mosque will be powered with solar energy panels.
Thoiba Ismail aims to complete construction of the mosque within a year, opening it to the public for Ramadan next year.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed recognized Thoiba Ismail's efforts over the years in spreading Islamic knowledge.
Shaheem also noted that Thoiba Ismail has now completed writing Quran Tafseer in local Dhivehi language, which will soon be released by the ministry.
