President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has presented the Grand Order of Military Honour on Major General Retired Moosa Ali Jaleel.
Jaleel was awarded the honour at the special ceremony held last night to mark this year's Victory Day.
The award is in recognition of Jaleel's distinguished service towards national security and significant contributions in safeguarding the sovereignty of the Maldives.
Jaleel first joined Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on July 3, 1980 at the rank of a Lance Corporal. Since then, he has risen through the ranks and served in many leadership roles until his retirement on February 12, 2012.
Jaleel also served as Chief of Defence Force from November 6, 2008 till February 9, 2012.
On November 3, 1988, during the attack, he was one of the first officers to actively engage in combat with the insurgent terrorists.
Over the span of his military service, Jaleel has received nine service ribbons and eleven medals, including the Presidential Ribbon, Special Duty Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, President Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, Purple Heart, and Medal for Exceptional Bravery.
Since his retirement from MNDF, he has filled th epost of Minister of Defence and National Security and High Commissioner of Maldives to Pakistan.
