Ooredoo Maldives has announced that the international Peace Cable, connected to Haa Dhaalu Atoll Kulhudhuhfushi City's landing site this February, has gone live in Singapore and Europe, with services now beginning.

Speaking at a press conference held today to commemorate the company's 19th anniversary, CEO Khalid Hassan Al-Hamadi said that Ooredoo Maldives now provides its services through the Peace Cable. He asserted that connecting the cable and beginning services in islands beyond Malé City is a significant step towards the digital transformation they aim to achieve in the Maldives.

.

The Peace Cable connected with Kulhudhuhfushi City marks the first instance of an international submarine cable being connected to an island other than Hulhumalé.

Through the Peace Cable, the Maldives will be connected to Singapore, Europe, and Africa. Ooredoo previously stated that the decision to invest in the cable was aimed at improving internet service latency and expanding capacity. They added that this cable will enhance 5G capacity, open innovative opportunities, and facilitate the establishment of a true digital Maldives.

According to Ooredoo, the Peace Cable will enable the expansion of Ooredoo's services and facilitate the opportunity to host a data center service in Kulhudhufushi. Additionally, digital businesses and software development facilities in the north will also experience further growth, Ooredoo said.
