Male' City has been readied to be festively lit up with fairy lights and decorative arches on the occasion of Fitr Eid, with the efforts being largely led by STELCO.
STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy stated on X today that the government's aim in this vivid celebration of Eid is to rekindle the spirit and joys of Eid celebrations from days gone by.
Efforts to decorate Male' City Streets with festive lights are being conducted by STELCO staff.
The installation of arches and lights is not limited to the capital city alone this year. Islands across Maldives are engaged in decorating their islands currently, with some islands already having completed preparations and residents enjoying the sight of the lights in the evenings.
In Male', the Republic Square is especially of note, with streams of lights of varying designs adorning the space, all arrangements made by STELCO teams.
Fahmy, terming this 'Eid Ali' [Eid Lights], stated that this is a major undertaking conducted for both religion and nation.
He noted that celebrating Eid in this manner would promote unity and community spirits as Islam encourages.
Fahmy emphasized that the intention is to celebrate Eid in such a way that will promote inclusion of all generations and encourage future generations to celebrate such occasions similarly at a national level.
"It is an honour for STELCO's staff and the entire company to receive this opportunity to plan, take leadership of, and execute this very technical and intricate work that will bring happiness and joy to the entire nation," Fahmy said.
A special ceremony is planned to be held at Republic Square at 21:30 hrs tonight to commence the light festival across cities and islands.
Lighting up the administrative capital of each atoll for Fitr Eid is an initiative led by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. He assured that as much as the government is capable, other islands, too, will be included in the efforts.
In Male', besides the Republic Square, lights and arches have been put up in numerous streets. Hulhumale', too, is decorated with a rainbow of coloured lights and designs.
As well as the decorations, several festive eid activities have also been planned to be held during Eid in the capital. This includes traditional games, fireworks and a special stage show.
