Maldives Post Limited has denied allegations that an employee was dismissed for whistleblowing.

The Human Rights Commission has decided to fine the company MVR 900,000 for terminating a staff member who reported corruption.

In a statement, the company said that the employee was dismissed due to performance and ethical issues.

"Since the employee joined the office, they were subjected to advice, warnings, and a performance improvement plan over approximately 10 months, with no improvement. The dismissal was carried out in accordance with employment regulations," the statement read.

Maldives Post also outlined several allegations regarding the employee’s behavior, including:

- Expressing dissatisfaction after failing to secure the position of company secretary before being hired

- Applying for senior positions while on probation and expressing frustration when not called in for interviews

- Attempting to use an external person of influence to escalate grievances to the Managing Director (MD)

- Requesting a transfer to a better position as soon as possible after dissatisfaction with career progression

- Intimidating the MD with the support of the person of influence

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating six cases involving Maldives Post.

The company has denied accusations of selling goods at Velana International Airport, altering attendance records for senior officials' benefit, and overpaying the MD.

Additionally, it refuted claims of promotions given to those close to the MD.
