Water services have been interrupted in Laamu atoll Fonadhoo due to technical issues faced in their water plant.
Fonadhoo Council President Ahmed Riyaz told Mihaaru News that water production had now been halted for a week due to technical issues in the water plant. He said that the matter had been raised with Fenaka last week.
Riyaz said that the water stored in the plant has now been used up. Hence, households which rely solely on water supply are now facing severe inconvenience.
Many households in Fonadhoo, with a population of 3000, however, have well water in addition to the Fenaka water supply.
Riyaz said that the water plant had run dry late last night, causing difficulties to some residents.
"Houses with water motors will continue getting water. Most will have that. But there are a few solely dependent on water from the plant," he said.
"It might not appear to be a big issue as not everyone is dependent on that alone. But there are some on the island who do depend on this. They are definitely facing difficulties," he said.
In a post on X, Fenaka said that water supply has been temporarily halted on the island due to a technical issue faced by the water plant.
They said that they are currently working on taking necessary resources to repair the water plant from Male' to Fonadhoo.
