Dr Vitaliy Lyubimov has been removed from his position as Managing Director and CEO of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO).

The announcement was made by Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) tonight. However, no further details were provided.

Dr Vitaliy, a Swiss citizen, was appointed in December last year, becoming the first foreign CEO in MIFCO’s history.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Shareef, previously MIFCO’s chairperson, has been removed from the role and appointed to the Board of Directors of the Maldives Fisheries and Ocean Resources Marketing and Promotion Corporation (MFOMPC).

Following these changes, MIFCO’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ilyas Haneef resigned last January.

After taking office, Dr Vitaliy had pledged to prevent political influence within MIFCO and work towards strengthening its management.

He was appointed CEO after the PCB removed Ahmed Samah Rasheed, who was suspended following complaints to the board.
